The Patrick (Ta) Problem is bigger than blush, it’s bigger than withholding payments from assistants and other creators, it’s bigger than undercutting peers, and devaluing an entire profession.
Thank you for a clear breakdown of this issue. I am now enlightened and will no longer buy Patrick Ta products. This is how we collectively respond and refuse to support his business.
Thank you for this breakdown. I somehow missed the whole story as it happened. Ta has never appealed to me and so I don’t follow him or his line. I was unaware of this whole controversy. Not surprised though…
Thank you for this incredibly detailed insight to such vile business practices. I will never purchase another Patrick Ta product again. I had heard about his shady business practices but never knew in depth of what really happened. It’s truly shameful. I’ve had credits for my work in film and tv stolen from me in the past and it’s pretty disgusting. This business is hard enough. We need to support each other and give credit where credit is due whether it be to our mentors or our peers. Thank you Kevin.
Nicely done... first time poster, mostly a quiet lurker. I enjoyed this piece especially. P Ta is a disappointment to the profession... always thought so but couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like him. Thank you for shedding the truth about his business practices and ethics. I'm definitely not supporting his business.
I adore your reviews of the industry so thank you. Such underhand behaviour is so disappointing. However I feel people not in the industry will let it roll off them & won’t care or understand. He’s crawling over his colleagues as such, we don’t work in the same company but we all share the same profession, he’s just banking on the ordinary person to simply not care.
It’s disgraceful that he’s gotten away with this for so long! There aren’t many people in this world who grind me the way this man does, but he seriously gets under my skin!! 😡🤮
Hello Beautiful speech as always and being Italian I can tell you that here in Italy many makeup artists choose the same path as ta, they even pay them famous artists in exchange for fame and if today we are at risk of having a law that does not consider us workers, much of the blame is attributable to this category of makeup artists who, instead of relying on their work, choose only a personal return account. What a shame
I still remember that first controversy and he's always given me a weird putting off vibes. I tend to look for professionals and creatives whose values align with mine and his never were, hence I never bought any product. Having said that, I'm inclined to think his success is the results of lucky circumstances rather than real talent or creative vision and therefore, not meant to last once the tide turns.
Similar experience I have with Karla cosmetics... I used to follow her eons ago, when she only had a blog and the comment that signed the deal for me, was the one when she complained and berated young makeup artists who were asking to be paid for assisting her. I mean...how poor are your values and ethics to expect them to work for free for the privilege of assisting you? Years ago I assisted a colleague who was starting her career as a mua on a couple of weddings, and she still insisted and paid me a fee. I was doing it just for fun (my job is in procurement). What a difference!
Eugenia Weston of Senna cosmetics just presented a live history lesson, demonstrating that this “new” technique is not new at all. It is readily apparent in old ads. Never underestimate the intelligence of a seasoned artist!
Thank you, Kevin for your breakdown and always being a voice for those that have been around since the dinosaurs as well. I’ve done a myriad of work in retail, freelance and bridal in my 30 years of beauty (23 years as a licensed esthetician) and I never understood the need to be so unethical. Thank you for bringing to light (and confirming suspicions) his “ethos”. I, too, grew up amongst the Kevyn Aucoin, Eugenia Weston and your name (KJB) as artists that I’ve admired for their work ethics and techniques. Thank you!

I teared up when I saw that the Kevyn Aucoin estate told Ester that Kevyn would have loved her.

I wasn’t sure what the controversy was about……. Now that I know …..
Patrick who shall not be named is out of my kit and client product recommendation list from here on out!
So DONE!

When I worked for P & G cosmetics back in the 1990's we had a Cover Girl Blush that contained 3 transitional hues.
I remember that well!
